Ikebukuro is an extremely convenient stopping point for trips to suburban Tokyo as there are a great number of railroad routes going into Ikebukuro such as the JR, two private railways (Seibu Line and Tobu Line) and two Tokyo Metro Subway lines. Along the railway lines there are a lot of dormitories which are relatively cheap and safe so we highly recommend this area for people who are planning to stay in Japan for a long period of time.

The town in front of Ikebukuro station attracts a lot of attention as a place of origin of sub-cultures following Akihabara. The area has four big department stores (Mitsukoshi, Seibu, Tobu and PARCO). In addition, there are Big Camera which has a full variety of leading edge electronic products, movie theaters, and live houses. Recently, there are also more specialized shops for animation, comic books and plastic model figures in the area. Those make Ikebukuro a new origin place of Japanese sub-culture.
Ikebukuro school has a special characteristic where it has a lot of people with resident status (e.g. long-term resident visa, working visa, spouse visa and researcher visa etc.) registered here. We offer information and supports for residents and long-term travelers so you don't have to worry.
